The Week That Was

I have just come home from an amazing dinner with my Mums Group girls (minus the babies woohoo). I hate the title of Mums Group. For some reason I associate it with a bunch of women who have nothing better to talk about than teething and pureed parsnip. Sad truth is, IT IS what we talk about. BUT in our defense, we are living and breathing this stuff and without the support of my “Mums Group” I would be very lost. Good thing is we laugh at our journeys until we cry; we give each other a shoulder to cry on if we are having one of those weeks and we ride the rollercoaster of first time motherhood….together. (Thanks to Jo, Helen and Raegan…love you long time).

Anyway, enough of my fabulous dinner.

I am just on the back end of a very busy week and have some exciting news to share. First cab off the rank is My Friend Matilda is now a registered business name (Phew!) I would have been stuck to think of another name if it was rejected as I had fallen in love with this one.

I also worked full time last week while my father in law, Nino had some time off work (and kindly offered to watch Kayden while I went and made some moula). This gave me little time to work on the business and therefore there were some very late nights and a new love for strong coffee in order to keep the train that was Matilda chugging along! One of the good things that came out of the extra work was that I had a little bit more money to put towards My Friend Matilda and stock some of the things I have fallen madly in love with on my journey to creating the ultimate gift store.

Now that the business name is registered, I have gone ahead and started to fill the shelves (virtual shelves) of My Friend Matilda. Here is a sneak peak at the goodies that are on their way across the country and globe right now!

Check out these beautiful creations by my new friend in Tuscany, Laura! Feel free to offer some kudos for Agata the Owl! I chose her fabric myself (the spotty owl on the left!). Kayden is already a fan of Helmut the Whale too, he laughs every time I show him a picture.

These are the days I dream of having a little girl so I can watch her dance and prance around her make believe stage in one of these gorgeous tutus we will now proudly stock by Fancy Schmancy.

I strongly believe in giving children toys that they can use in role/imaginative play. This was a big part of my childhood and I just loved picking out and choosing different “foods” I would have loved to “serve up” to my customers when I was young.

There is so much more to come so stay tuned and I will keep you updated on when my special deliveries start filing in! I’ll probably tackle the mail man in the drive way!

Thanks again for reading.

Welcome to My Friend Matilda, an extremely fresh blog! You may even be one of the first people to stumble across it.

The idea behind this blog is to eventually promote my online store, My Friend Matilda but at the moment it is just to get the store name out there and to share my journey….from a stay at home mum to a dreamer of something bigger than nappies, solids and day time T.V!

You may have some questions and hopefully I will have answered them here, if not feel free to ask!

Who is Matilda? Matilda is my very gorgeous Cavoodle. I considered calling the business something to do with my 8 month old son Kayden but it didn’t have the same ring to it..So the name My Friend Matilda was born. I also like the fact that the word Matilda is associated with my beautiful country Australia.

What is My Friend Matilda? My Friend Matilda is the online store that I have spent many, many hours over the last couple of month's creating. This boutique store is where you will find clothing, toys and accessories for your little cherubs (including the fury ones), stationary, unique jewelry, handbags and purse’s, organic and “green” environmentally friendly home wares, gift cards and wraps. Basically anything I have fallen in love with and would want to either give to my loved ones or receive!

What made you start an online boutique? I have just had the biggest year of my life! It started with my partner and I finding out one sunny afternoon that I was in fact 5 months pregnant with my now 8 month old son, Kayden.

You may be thinking….how did she not know for so long? Well, it is a very long story but to sum it up, I was diagnosed with a condition called PCOS and was told that my long time boyfriend (and future husband) and I would not have children without the assistance of IVF etc. So we were not looking out for signs. And the next question everyone asks is..but didn’t you get morning sickness or put on weight? Yes and yes. I put morning sickness down to a sudden attack of lactose intolerance (what an idiot) and I dealt with my weight gain like any 23 year old girl does….long runs on the coast and Weight Watchers!

From that sunny afternoon on, our world was turned upside down and it still is now! We were very excited to meet our beautiful boy Kayden but to be honest, we had no idea how exhausting it would be. I don’t think anyone does until they are living on little sleep and worry about EVERYTHING! Such as, is the baby too hot or cold? And is this poo the right texture? Gross but very true. Anyway, what was the question again? Oh yes, what made me start My Friend Matilda.

When Kayden was born he was spoilt with love and lots of gifts. The most memorable gifts were the hand made ones or the unique, one of a kind presents. It got me thinking that there is a definite demand for unique and special gifts for others and of course yourself! I am also passionate about living a green life (especially now that I am a mother) and taking things back to basics. I do not want my son to grow up in front of a TV or playing with plastic, unimaginative toys. So once I came out of that six month blur of being a first time parent, I sat down and started dreaming…..and that is where My Friend Matilda began.

Where can I find your store? Fingers crossed it will be ready for action very soon!
Thanks for taking the time to read this and feel free to become a regular reader! I look forward to showing you my store (and world)
